The Auditor General hosted the Ambassador of Sweden


The Ambassador of Sweden to Kosovo, Karin Hernmarck Ahliny, accompanied by the Head of Development Cooperation, Nasrin Pourghazian, on Wednesday visited the Kosovo National Audit Office (KNAO), where they were hosted by the Auditor General Vlora Spanca, Deputy Auditor of General, Ilir Salihu and the Director of the Department for Communication and International Cooperation, Qëndresa Mulaj.

The Auditor General of Kosovo, Vlora Spanca, highly appreciated the partnership built a decade ago between the National Audit Office of Kosovo and that of Sweden. Mrs. Spanca said that thanks to the continuous and practical support from the Swedish National Audit Office, the KNAO has reached a high level of professionalism and is one of the most credible institutions in Kosovo, dedicated to assist public institutions to improve governance and enhance accountability.

Further on, the Auditor General of Kosovo, Vlora Spanca, informed the Swedish diplomat on the strategic vision of the KNAO, stressing that the main goal is to further increase the portfolio of performance audits, especially the audits of Information Technology and Publicly Owned Enterprises; introducing risk-based audit approach; further investment in the professional education of auditors; as well as intensifying cooperation with the Assembly, the justice system, civil society organizations and the media.

Further on, Mrs. Spanca also informed the guest about the activities of the KNAO, with special emphasis on launching the new 2021/22 season. The Auditor General has indicated that the KNAO produces and publishes over 130 audit reports on an annual basis, however the insufficient level of implementation of audit recommendations remains a challenge.

On the other hand, the Ambassador of Sweden to Kosovo, Karin Hernmarck Ahliny, highly appreciated the long cooperation between the Swedish National Audit Office and the Kosovo National Audit Office. On this occasion, the Swedish diplomat also spoke about the importance of KNAO’s independence and professional work and expressed the readiness for future cooperation between the Embassy of Sweden in Kosovo and the KNAO.
