National Audit Office – 17 years of work, challenges and success

17thAnniversary_eng-01

Any October since seventeen years ago, when the National Audit Office started its journey, has proven the necessity of having this important institution for the oversight of public funds and increase of economic and financial control in the state of Kosovo established.

Hard work and a great deal of dedication has characterised the journey of this Office over these 17 years and with evident successes thereof.

Almost two decades ago, the National Audit Office started to operate as an independent institution carrying out tens of audits, mainly regularity ones, with a limited number of staff. Today, this institution has grown both professionally and in number of staff, counting around 170 employees performing more than 120 audits per year, including performance and POE audits.

NAO now enjoys high credibility and is valued as one of the most reliable institutions in Kosovo. It has achieved satisfactory results internationally as well. One of them is certainly the full rights membership of NAO in the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI). It is the greatest achievement in the history of external public sector audit in the Republic of Kosovo.

The National Audit Office shall remain an independent public sector institution, improve quality of work, and provide the Assembly and public with reliable report. Through audit work and increasingly encouraging public institutions to implement the audit recommendations, NAO aims at contributing to improvement of citizens’ life.

In this 17ty anniversary, NAO and its staff share the pride they take in this extraordinary development over the year. Professional maturity and high level of responsibility, that characterises the institution and its staff, will enable a faster and much desired development.

National Audit Office will celebrate this anniversary in a symbolic way, through virtual activities, due to the pandemic situation we find ourselves in, so we respect the measures taken for protection against Covid-19.
